Session Description
This session aims to decode the mystery of leadership by developing emotionally intelligent agile learners. The learning outcomes for this session include: leadership, learning agility, and emotional intelligence development. Leadership has been proven to be correlated with organizational success. With leadership being of vital importance to our organizations, the question for us as HR professionals is how do we attract, develop, and retain individuals that posses these characteristics in our organizations? Research has shown that learning agility is a reliable predictor of potential leadership. In addition, emotional intelligence competencies have a direct positive correlation with transformational leadership traits. This session will explore leadership, learning agility, and emotional intelligence concepts from theory to practical application.

More About Sheri Caldwell

Dr. Sheri Caldwell received an undergraduate degree in Industrial Organization Psychology from Bowling Green State University. She also received her MBA and Ph.D. in Human Resource Development from the University of Toledo, where she taught for 19 years.

Sheri is currently the HR Director – Grain Group at The Andersons, Inc. Additionally, Sheri has taught undergraduate through Ph.D. level HR courses at many local colleges and currently focuses her time to teaching at Lourdes University. Prior to The Andersons, Sheri worked at Medical Mutual, UT Physicians, Hickory Farms, the Toledo Zoo, Staples and Key Bank.

As part of the Ohio SHRM State Council, Sheri was the Chair for the Ohio HR Conference (OHRC) in 2016. She is also the 2005 Past President of the local HR group formerly known as the Toledo Area Human Resource Association (TAHRA), now called Northern Ohio Human Resource Association (NOHRA), and currently is on the Program Committee for the Toledo HR Associations’ Conference (THRAC) – a partnership of NOHRA and the Employers’ Association (EA). Sheri is also on the Board of the EA and a former member of the HR Committee for the American Red Cross. She was inducted into the Cardinal Stritch High School Hall of Fame, received the 20 Under 40 Leadership Award in 2004 and the Alumni Community Award from BGSU in 2006.

Sheri has published various articles and is the co-author of a SHRM best-selling book Got A Minute? The 9 Lessons Every HR Professional Must Learn to be Successful with Dr. Dale Dwyer and Got A Solution - HR Approaches to 5 Common and Persistent Business Problems.

Sheri has her SHRM-SP and SPHR certifications became a Certified Internet Recruiter and got certified in EQ-I and EQ-360 for Emotional Intelligence, also the subject of her first book, Developing Emotional Intelligence In Others with Dr. Linda Gravett. Sheri’s most recent book, also with Dr. Gravett, was released in 2016 titled Learning Agility: The Impact on Recruitment and Retention.

More About Matt Moser

Matt is a lifelong resident of Northwest Ohio. He attended the University of Ashland where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Finance. After his undergraduate experience, Matt began his career in banking, working as a branch manager for a local bank. A lifelong learner, the pursuit of continuing education brought Matt to Bowling Green State University to earn his Master’s of Business Administration and eventually his Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies. While at Bowling Green State University, Matt worked as a graduate research assistant helping professors quantify their qualitative research. Until this point, Matt had always been a “numbers guy” focused on quantitative research; however, the experience working on qualitative research opened Matt to the world of social sciences. Matt became fascinated with emotional intelligence theory and spent his doctoral studies researching the topic. Eventually, Matt co-authored a study of emotional intelligence in the martial arts, presented at the Critical Questions in Education conference, and wrote his dissertation An exploration of the relationship between principal leadership, emotional intelligence, and student achievement.

After graduating with his doctorate degree, Matt started at The Andersons, Inc. Matt has developed and facilitates a course on Positive Team Leadership focused on emotional intelligence competencies. Matt is also currently an adjunct professor at The University of Toledo and teaches courses in learning and development and human resource management.
